Purple loosestrife is an herbaceous plant that grows in all temperate regions of the planet. It is used as an astringent medicinal herb to treat diarrhea and dysentery. It is also cultivated as a ornamental plant for its beautiful purple flowers.

Purple loosestrife honey is a rare honey. It crystallizes coarsely over time, changing its colour from red-orange to yellow-orange. It has a mild, slightly floral smell. The taste either is not very intense, but the aftertaste is bitter, long-lasting, putting it in the category of bitter honeys (chestnut, thistle, holly, arbutus).
