Also known as bear’s garlic or cow’s leek, Allium ursinum is used as a food, especially in spring. Its leaves have a garlic-like taste. In Romania it grows wild, up to altitudes of 1900 m, preferring the damp and shady deciduous forests of Muntenia, Transylvania and southern Moldavia.
Wild garlic honey is a rare honey, as beehives have to be taken to areas with large areas of wild garlic in April-May. It has a discreet flavour and a slightly spicy aftertaste.
