Of Mediterranean origin, coriander started to be cultivated in Romania in the 1970s, especially in Dobrogea, Bărăgan, Oltenia, Moldavian Plateau, and the Tisa Plain. It is a plant which adapts easily to new climatic areas, being able even to grow in the climate of the Scandinavian Peninsula in warmer years. In Europe, it is mainly found in Moldova, Romania, Bulgaria, and Italy. In France it is extremely rare.

Coriander honey has an unpleasant odour at first, when harvested, but after a while this smell disappears and is replaced by a mild, floral aroma. As it crystallizes, it becomes darker, turning red-brown.
