Just like the black locust (false acacia), the false indigo is native to North America. It was introduced to Europe as an ornamental bush, but now it is an invasive plant.

In Romania, false indigo bushes grow mainly in meadow regions – along the Danube River and in the Danube Delta, preferring sandy soils. In France, it grows abundantly in the Camargue region, and in Italy we can mainly find it in the North. It blossoms in June and July. False indigo honey crystallizes finely and has a mild aroma. When crystallized, it turns light orange.
