There are many species of oregano, either wild or cultivated. The best known and most widely traded is Origanum vulgare, the quintessential spice of Mediterranean Europe. Origanum onites also grows at wild in Crete, Sicily, and Turkey.

Oregano honey is a very rare type of honey. In Greece, it is only obtained by a few beekeepers; and the same in Spain and Morocco.
